Two tips to follow when renting skip bins for big decluttering projects

Here are two tips to follow when using skip bin hire services for big decluttering projects.

Don't wait until the bin is full to request that it be collected and replaced

It's very common for people who have taken on big decluttering projects to need to use more than one skip throughout this process. People in this situation will usually order one skip, fill it up and then have the rental company pick it up and replace it with a new, empty bin.

If you suspect you'll need to do this during your own project, you should not wait until the bin is completely full before notifying the bin hire business and asking them to come and get it. Instead, you should give them a ring when the bin is about two-thirds or three-quarters full. The reason for this is that if the bin hire company is busy and you ask them to collect the bin and give you a new empty one before the original prearranged collection time, it could take them a day or so to pick up the full bin and give you another one.

As such, if you wait until the bin is full before calling, you may be left without any usable bin for a day or more. During this time, you might have to put your decluttering work on hold or leave the decluttered objects in bags outside your property, which could be hazardous. By making this call before you've filled the bin, the new one should arrive shortly after the old one has reached capacity and your project will remain on schedule.

Invest in a few items to help you break down bigger objects you need to declutter

If you'll be decluttering a lot of things, you might want to pick up a few tools that will aid you in breaking apart the larger objects that you'll need to put into the skip. For example, if you're throwing out furniture, you might want to get a screwdriver so you can disassemble its arms and legs, and a hammer or saw to break down things like tabletops, the backs of wardrobes, etc.

Breaking bigger items apart before throwing them in your rented skip will save space and cut down on the number of times you have to go through the bin collection and replacement process. Having the tools you need to break items down easily will mean it will be a quick and painless experience that'll be less likely to lead to you being hurt (which could happen, if you tried to, for example, use brute force to snap off table legs or the arms of chairs).
